If you’re new to the massive multiplayer online scene, then maybe you haven’t heard of Dark Orbit. So what is it?

Dark Orbit is one of the most popular MMO games out there today with more than forty million registered users. The reason behind its popularity may be that it combines various genres into a single game and then improves upon those genres.

If you’ve ever played one of those resource management games on Facebook, for instance, you may have had some fun maxing out your farm or nightclub or what have you, but at the end of the day, all you could really do was use your points to buy more stuff for your farm or nightclub, and all that stuff would do was… earn you more points.

Well, Dark Orbit has the resource management that keeps you hooked on those games, but you take those resources and use them to upgrade your ship and go on quests. The game mixes resource management with the real time combat of strategy games and the action of a straightforward space shooter.

Upgrading your ship with various boosters, spacecraft designs, weapons, ammo and shields is almost a game in and of itself, but it all comes back to the core strategy game at the heart of Dark Orbit.

A big part of the fun of Dark Orbit really is the MMOG aspect, playing with other people online. There can be a steep difficulty curve, of course, if you jump right from the beginning of the game into trying to play against the high level players, but it should be easy enough to hook up with players of your skill and experience level so that you can have fun and enjoy the game at your own pace as you level up.

The game offers a fun, pick up and play approach for players who don’t have a lot of time and just want to kill a few minutes on lunch breaks, but it also rewards more dedicated players who are willing to spend an hour at a time levelgrinding and really trying to max out their ship. In other words, it has a little something for everyone.

If you’ve been wanting to jump into MMOG games, Dark Orbit offers pretty much everything you’re looking for. You can get more information here.
